For a stylish holiday based near to Ibiza’s best nightlife, including the exclusive Marina Botafoch area, we have villa rentals in Ibiza Town, Talamanca, Jesus, San Jordi, and the surrounding areas. We also have a good offering of luxury properties in the wider areas of Ibiza. Here’s a quick rundown on Ibiza’s five municipalities and what you can expect from each.
Ibiza Town is the island’s historical and commercial centre, located on the east coast of Ibiza. Its most striking feature is the UNESCO World Heritage fortress residing over the harbor. This fortress and the town within its walls is known as Dalt Vila, literally translated as High Town. A wander along its cobblestoned alleys and higher ramparts offer an interesting perspective on the town and island.
Coexisting harmoniously alongside the historical sites and traditional elements of Ibiza Town is the modern tourist side of Ibiza, with fashion shopping, seasonal eateries, and thriving summer nightlife.
The port of Ibiza, Marina Botafoch, on the north side of Ibiza Town is one of the most exclusive ports in the world, lined by fine dining, stylish bars, and designer boutiques catering to the mega-rich and their super-yachts. With the nearby casino, some of Ibiza’s best nightclubs, and a number of five-star hotels, this area of Ibiza is where the rich and famous come to play.
Just south of Ibiza Town is Playa d’en Bossa, another of the areas major nightlife areas, with a large clubbing contingent right on Playa d’en Bossa beach – Ibiza’s largest stretching sandy beach.
San Antonio is a busy harbor town located on the west coast of Ibiza, famous for it’s sunset bars, boat parties and clubs. A mecca for British tourists in the 1980’s, these days San Antonio attracts a broad range of nationalities, popular with groups of young adults attracted by it’s laid-back lifestyle, beachfront location and nightlife offerings, including the bustling ‘West End.’
The town offers a vast array of options for dining, from cheap and cheerful holiday staples such as burgers and chips to more upscale restaurants serving local and Mediterranean dishes. As well as several of Ibiza’s biggest nightclubs and beach clubs, there is also a melting pot of bar options, from stylish cocktail bars to Irish pubs.
As well as the popular main beach, S’Arenal and the smaller town beaches that make up ‘The Bay,’ San Antonio boasts some excellent ‘day at the beach’ options just a few minutes drive from the town centre, including Cala Bassa, Cala Gracio and Cala Salada. As an alternative way to get to these top beaches, there are often various boats and ferries along the harbour that offer return journeys.
San Jose is Ibiza’s largest municipality, covering much of the south and southwest parts of the island. In it’s centre, the village of San Jose itself is charming and more of a year-round residential town than a touristic place. The wider municipality of San Jose however is hugely popular thanks to its many beautiful beaches and coves. San Jose also boasts a high percentage of Ibiza’s luxury properties and high-end beach clubs, attracting A-listers and the jet-set crowd. Popular areas to stay in San Jose include Cala Vadella, Cala Jondal, Es Cubells and Cala Tarida. Many of San Jose’s western coves and beaches offer spectacular sunsets.
Santa Eulalia is the most laid back of Ibiza’s largest towns, without the super clubs and overwhelming nightlife options of Ibiza Town or San Antonio. It’s very popular with young families and those after a relaxed-pace beach holiday. The town’s two sandy beaches are gentle and kid-friendly, while being just a short walk from a number of cafes and seaside dining options.
Located on the upper east coast of Ibiza, Santa Eulalia makes for a great base in which to explore the less-developed north of Ibiza, as well as being popular with holidaymakers who like to get active, be it cycling, hiking or kayaking. The surrounding countryside and villages offer an opportunity to discover the rural and artisanal side of Ibiza, including the bohemian village of Santa Gertrudis, the famous Las Dalias Hippy Markets in San Carlos, and the many fruit orchards and farms just a short drive from the pretty coves and laid-back beach bars along it’s coastline.
San Juan, in the north of Ibiza is the least populated municipality on the island. It’s sleepy and far less developed than the south and offers a completely different type of holiday. It’s ideal for those who are looking for complete escapism. With several stunning beaches, simple beach bars and rural restaurants and a number of excellent walking trails, there are a welcome few distractions here so rest and relaxation is easy to obtain.
Ibiza’s municipalities are well connected via the Ibiza bus service however we always recommend hiring a car during your Ibiza holiday, even if it’s only for a few days. This will give you much more freedom to explore the island,
We have an excellent range of self-catered villas in each of these above areas. Get in touch to discuss which area of Ibiza you would prefer to holiday in, and we would be happy to show you some appealing villa options.
As well as the very best in Ibiza’s luxury accommodation options, Ibiza Summer Villas can also arrange other activities to complete your dream Ibiza holiday. Here are just some ideas on how to spend your long Ibiza days:
Dine Out in Ibiza’s Best Restaurants
The island has an incredible choice of five star dining options, some well known and others – hidden gems – that are lesser known. There are too many fantastic food options in Ibiza to list here, with new ones popping up all the time. Why not have a chat with us about the dining experience you are after and let us use our vast experience and local knowledge to help guide you on your gastronomic discovery of the island.
Indulge in a Spa Day
Another great way to spend a few hours is to visit one of Ibiza’s top spas for a day of pampering to relinquish the stress from back home. Ibiza has attracted some incredibly talented therapists and boasts a number of five-star spas that offer sumptuous treatments in total tranquility – a good option to balance out the more active pursuits of the island.
Hacienda Na Xamena is a posh boutique hotel hidden in the cliff tops near San Miguel. It is the ultimate escape for those that want complete privacy and peace – which for those uninformed it can be difficult to come by in the height of the summer. Their spa, La Posidonio, is open to non-residents and it’s quite simply; breathtaking. The venue includes several pools that are literally perched on the cliff sides, offering 180-degree views of the Mediterranean.
Another popular Ibiza spa, which is slightly more accessible, is housed in the highly popular Agroturism hotel of Atzaró. This rural retreat is set near to the heart of Ibiza, in the countryside of San Lorenzo. Atzaró Spa combines tranquil escapism, sumptuous treatments, spiritual notes and Ibiza high style and the results are simply bliss.
Other Ibiza spa’s we can highly recommend include Open Spa in The Ibiza Gran Hotel on Marina Botafoch, Zentropia in the Grand Palladium Palace Resort in Playa d’en Bossa and the Prestige Spa in the Insotel Fenicia Prestige hotel in Santa Eulalia. Again, have a chat with us about the type of spa experience you are after and we would be happy to make enquiries and reservations on your behalf.
We highly recommend spending a day exploring the crystalline waters of Formentera on your own private sailboat or speedboat. Formentera, Ibiza’s neighbouring island, is the smallest of the Balearic Islands and considered by many as one of the most alluring outposts of paradise in Europe.
One popular experience for those traveling to Formentera is to dine at the iconic Juan y Andreas bar and restaurant. Overlooking the idyllic bay of Playa de Illetes, you can sip champagne, dine on lobster and other fresh local seafood whilst being served by barefoot white-suited waiters and rubbing shoulders with shipping magnates, A-listers and ex-presidents. Or pair things back to simplicity and pack a picnic to enjoy onboard while beach hopping along the island’s paradisiac shores.
Many of our clients comment that the day they spent on a yacht, coasting around Formentera or watching the sun go down in the bay of San Antonio, was one of their best holiday experiences. Let us help organise what could be the ultimate treat of your Ibiza holiday, with the best deals on private boat hire in Ibiza.
Clubbing in Ibiza
Despite the many, many things you can do in Ibiza, the islands clubbing scene is still its major draw card. The island has long been the party epicenters of Europe, and boasts some of the world’s best nightclubs, staging many of the world’s top DJ’s as well as high profile electronic music events. Each club offers different themed party nights, different musical styles and different atmospheres, so there is sure to be something for everyone. The main clubbing hotspots on the island are Ibiza Town, Playa d’en Bossa, San Rafael and San Antonio. We have a selection of beautiful villas in each of these townships; just several minutes drive from the clubs and surrounding nightlife.
Delve into Ibiza’s Past
A whole lot has happened on this little Mediterranean island since the Carthaginians founded ‘Ibossim’ in 654BC and a day spent tracing the years back is a day well spent. Look beyond the modern clubs and tourist lain beaches and you’ll uncover a tumultuous history of invasions and plundering, where different peoples and cultures have left their mark on the island. Some of Ibiza’s must visit historical sites include the dominating fortress of Dalt Vila, the eerie burial grounds of Puig des Molins, the stone Pirate towers dotting the islands coastline and the Salt Fields of San Jose.
Other ideas for your Ibiza holiday
The great thing about holidaying in Ibiza is that the island has something for everyone. Other ideas for things to do on your Ibiza getaway could include hiring a private chef for a long lunch or formal evening, indulging in high-end retail therapy at Ibiza’s many designer boutiques or picking up unique treasures at one of Ibiza’s lively markets, or be even more adventurous and take a helicopter ride over the island for a unique perspective or join one of the walking, cycling, kayaking or cliff diving tours available.
Our personalised concierge service is also on hand to help arrange other extras such as luxury or economy car hire, beauty treatments in the comfort of your villa, pre-arrival grocery shopping, private catering, private transport, personal training, private yoga lessons and much more.
Alternatively, spend your day doing very little. Sometimes holidays are about sitting back, switching off and simply soaking it in. With your own private villa, this is exactly what you can do. You’ll have your own space, complete peace and be on your own watch.
Ibiza’s peak season, where the island is busiest, prices are highest and temperatures are hottest is July and August. This is a popular time for holidaymakers who want guaranteed sunshine, a jam-packed event calendar and to revel in Ibiza’s party scene. May and June, September and October on the island, whilst still lively, are more popular months for families and those that prefer to holiday at a slower pace, while still enjoying warm waters, sunshine and plenty of entertainment options.
Ibiza is well known as a seasonal island, however any time of year offers visitors something special. Whilst Ibiza Summer Villas does not rent our complete range of villas out during the winter months, we do have several options for short-term Ibiza winter rentals.
