One of the most frequently asked questions we receive at Ibiza Summer Villas is WHERE to book your perfect holiday home? The island of Ibiza is wonderfully diverse, with the five municipalities offering something for everyone. One such place, which we truly believe is one of Ibiza´s most attractive areas, is the captivating coastline and countryside which make up the sprawling area known as San Josep de Sa Talaia, or San Jose for short.
With its lush green countryside, and home to the highest point in the island, the mountain of Sa Talaia, San Jose is popular with those who seek to immerse themselves in nature. The breathtaking beauty of the beaches make it one of our most sought after areas for sea view villas, and the town itself is small, yet enticing. Vibrant bars, tantalising tapas restaurants and other dining destinations abound here.
At Ibiza Summer Villas, we choose our properties with great care, only selecting private, luxury villas, where we are confident our guests will enjoy the full potential which Ibiza has to offer, and our villas in San Jose are certainly no exception. Each one of our exceptional holiday homes is of the highest standards, and we are delighted to offer you a heady mixture of modern, minimalistic chic villas, along with more traditional, rustic fincas, which represent the very heart and soul of the island of Ibiza.
The vast majority of our villas in San Jose offer private swimming pools, air conditioning, cutting edge technology, and of course are decorated with style and flair. Our dedicated team of experts are ready and waiting to assist you through the sometimes daunting decision-making process. Our innate knowledge of San Jose and the surrounding areas allows us to ensure you are connected with your perfect property time after time.
We all know that location is everything when choosing your perfect Ibiza villa. And one of the reasons San Jose is so popular with people from all walks of life is its prime location. Sitting proudly on the west coast of the island, it is home to some of the finest beaches in Ibiza. Another alluring aspect and one we love the most is the spectacular sunset views which are available for this part of Ibiza.
The close proximity to both Ibiza Town, the captivating capital of the island, and the thriving resort of San Antonio are also good reasons to choose San Jose as your Ibiza base. Ibiza Town is home to the historic Dalt Vila, an ancient fort that dominates the skyline, and within its walls, you can unearth a whole treasure trove of facts and information about Ibiza´s rich and varied history.
The town is also home to some of the finest restaurants in Ibiza, and of course hosts some of the biggest names in the nightlife scene, namely Pacha and Lio. Here you can dance the night away or dine in divine decadence, all just a short drive from the peace and tranquillity of your San Jose villa. Over in San Antonio, the scene is slightly different, yet just as diverse. With elegant restaurants, a marvellous marina, and spectacular sunset spots, San Antonio is not to be sniffed at!
Sun worshippers will be in seventh heaven when you choose San Jose as your Ibiza holiday destination. With a simply showstopping selection of white sandy beaches, the only problem you will have is choosing which one to visit next! Perhaps the best known is the glorious Cala Jondal. Home to the legendary Blue Marlin Beach Club, this is where the glitterati flock to each and every summer to see and be seen. Along the rocky shoreline, you will see several mega-yachts moored out to sea at any given time during the summer, whilst their owners and guests enjoy the beach scene. The Blue Marlin attracts a flamboyant, colourful crowd, who come to dine in the elegant restaurant, then lap up the sight of the sparkling waters from their sumptuous daybeds. Attentive staff are on hand to keep your champagne topped up at all times! When the sun goes down, the tempo rises at Blue Marlin, with some of the biggest DJs on the island providing the soundtrack to your evening. It’s little wonder that some of the most luxurious villas in Ibiza can be found looking out onto the shores of this beautiful beach.
It may be the most famous, but the Blue Marlin is not the only beach venue at this beautiful bay. For a more relaxed scene, and perhaps more family-friendly, head next door to the charming Tropicana beach club. Here you can enjoy just as much of the beautiful view as their famous neighbour, with excellent food and service, yet with a slightly lower price tag! The foodies amongst you will be in heaven at the other dining destination which graces this shore, Yemanja. A true Ibizan institution, this renowned restaurant is open 365 days per year and attracts a loyal following of locals and holidaymakers alike. The food is exquisite, the service exceptional. A perfect way to spend an Ibizan day.
If you prefer your beach day with fewer people, less action, and more relaxation, then don’t worry. San Jose has a varied selection of hidden bays and quiet coves where you can enjoy the blissful beauty of the island away from the hustle and bustle of the busy beach clubs. One such place is Cala Codolar. This tiny cove is a short distance in kilometres from Cala Jondal, yet it feels like a different world! You won´t find any flashy beach bars here, only a simple hut selling sandwiches and if you´re lucky, freshly caught sardines. There´s no pumping music, just the sound of the sea lapping the shore. However, if you tire of soaking up the sun, a small windsurfing school offers reasonably priced lessons.
Somewhere in the middle of these two, style-wise, you will find the spectacular bay of Cala Vedella. As elegant as Cala Jondal, with the same raw natural beauty as Cala Codolar, this is a true piece of Ibizan paradise. A handful of bars and restaurants line the shore, serving a selection of fresh seafood and excellent cuts of meat. It’s a popular mooring spot for yachts and a great place to watch the sun go down. Some of our most beautiful Ibiza villas are nestled into the hills surrounding Cala Vedella. The secluded location makes it ideal for those who seek privacy and tranquillity.
Gastronomy is something of an art form here in Ibiza, with a varied and colourful mixture of cuisines to choose from. And San Jose is no exception when it comes to variety. One place which will instantly charm you and make you feel at home is the divine Olive Tree. Refurbished with love and attention a few years ago, this intimate yet welcoming eaterie has become one of the area's hottest spots, especially on a Sunday, when they serve up their legendary Sunday Roast. Ok, so, it’s not typically Spanish, we give you that, but you simply have to taste the food to believe how good it is. The portions are almost ridiculously large and add some innovative cocktails and an excellent Bloody Mary into the mix and you have the perfect Sunday lunch destination. The Olive Tree is open all week as well, with a diverse and quality menu, and you can be assured of excellent service each and every time.
However, should you prefer to taste something a little more akin to the country you are in, then head to the centre of San Jose itself, and discover the divine delights of Destino, quite possibly the best tapas bar in Ibiza. Here, you can spend literally hours tasting their award-winning, inventive and frankly delicious tapas dishes, all perfectly complemented by an excellent wine selection. Their unusual combinations infuse Asian and Arabic herbs and flavours into traditional tapas dishes, with amazing results! We advise booking in advance as this is such a popular spot!
We can´t talk about dining in San Jose without mentioning Raco Verde, in the very heart of the town. A popular meeting point, this idyllic location has been serving the locals and holidaymakers alike for decades, and it’s eternally popular. The pretty gardens are fragrant and bright, and the menu is varied and fresh. From breakfast through to dinner you can indulge in some health-giving smoothies, with delicious local fruits, or opt for sumptuous salads and lighter dishes at lunchtime. Evenings are all about the Mexican vibe, with their signature sharing plates, ingeniously designed so that so groups can pick and mix flavours, such as nachos, cazuelitas, embutidos and their famous ‘Tacos for Two’.
Being a rather tranquil town, San Jose is hardly famed for its wild nightlife scene. However, the area is home to two of the island's most well established and famous nightspots. The first is the iconic venue KM5, an opulent bar, restaurant and club all beautifully blended together under colourful Bedouin tents. This has long been a hangout for the A-List and visiting celebrities and has hosted wild parties for over 20 years, with some of showbiz´s biggest names in attendance. And even today it’s not unusual to see a supermodel rubbing shoulders with a movie star either in the fine dining restaurant, eclectic garden space or indoor disco. KM5 is quite simply a must-do on your Ibiza itinerary.
The other venue is the mountainside location, Cova Santa. Part of the Amnesia Group, this stunning complex was unused for several years but has enjoyed a recent refurbishment and for the last few years has hosted parties from Luciano, Marco Carola and other stellar acts. The venue has been carefully created around an ancient cave, giving it a unique ambience, and boasts an excellent restaurant as well as a huge dance area.
For those who love to explore, then head towards the mountain of Sa Talaia, which stands proudly on the outskirts of the town of San Jose. It is officially named as the highest geographical point in Ibiza and offers breathtaking panoramic views across the island. Accessible by a well-signposted footpath, starting from the centre of the town, it is a popular destination for climbers and hikers, though once again, is not an easy route. Standing 475 m above sea level, on a clear day you can see mainland Spain from the peak. The rugged beauty of this particular stretch of Ibiza coastline is lush, green and fragrant with the scent of pine, juniper, fig and carob trees.
You may also like to make the most of the opportunity to capture some incredible photographs of the turquoise waters of Cala Bassa, Cala Comte and Cala Jondal. You may need a long lens and a professional camera to get the best results here, but the effort is most certainly worth it!
If you yearn to learn more about the history of the island and relive the days of Ibiza in an age far past, then you will delight in the ancient Phoenician and Roman settlements close to the town itself, along with the ruins of several medieval churches and watchtowers to be found dotted along the coastline. The centre of the town of San Jose itself is a prime example of traditional Ibicencan design, with its charming whitewashed buildings, and the square is resplendent with its 16th-century church, which allegedly took 300 years to build, and remains a marvel of ancient architecture to this day.
Quite simply put, should you choose San Jose as your location for your luxury villa in Ibiza, then you have all of the benefits the island has to offer at your disposal. Prime location, beautiful beaches, and rustic charm, what more could you possibly desire?
