San Antonio - Ibiza, such a diverse and differing region, encompassing so many different aspects within its wide embrace.
From the infamous party scene to some of the most breathtaking beaches and bays on the island, and home to an extensive selection of our finest luxury villas in Ibiza, there's so much to tell you about San Antonio, it's hard to know where to begin.
So, let’s start with a little history. For over two thousand years, San Antonio was a sleepy fishing village, which originated from the Roman natural harbour known as Portus Magnus, and it boasts a rich agricultural history, but this tranquil fishing port was dramatically changed during the late 1950s when the tourism explosion happened in Spain. With the influx of package holidays and the increasing number of British and European visitors, San Antonio was an instant hit, due to its idyllic location, sparkling clear waters, and natural beauty. Soon the resort began to grow, spreading its reach from the port right across the surrounding areas of Cala de Bou and Cap Furnet.
Today, San Antonio is loved for its vibrant nightlife, and bar culture, making it an eternally popular destination for big parties of holidaymakers seeking group villas to rent in Ibiza, however, it also appeals to an entirely different audience due to its expanse of captivating coastline, fine dining destinations, upmarket beach clubs and some of the clearest waters to be found in Ibiza.
Many of our Ibiza villas in San Antonio offer sunset or sea views, and we find that many clients return year after year to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of their remotely located holiday homes, whilst still enjoying fast and easy access to San Antonio itself, with all the excitement it has to offer.
We have a vast and varied selection of villas in San Antonio and the surrounding areas, so we are confident that we can match you with your dream holiday home, whether that means being close to the action of the town itself, a stylishly chic contemporary villa designed with modern-day living in mind, or a rustic Finca offering sensational sunset views, our expert team are ready and waiting to guide you through the often daunting process of choosing the right villa for you. Our years of expertise and unrivalled knowledge of this most popular part of Ibiza enables us to ensure you will be nothing less than delighted with your choice.
We simply can't describe the sheer beauty of the beaches to be found in and around the town, and for sure, the abundance of breathtaking bays is one of the biggest reasons why so many people choose their holiday villas in San Antonio. The beach in the main town is lengthy and dotted with many beach bars, catering for families and partygoers alike, and is awash with watersports outlets offering all kinds of water-based fun, from jet bikes and parasailing to banana boats and other inflatable rides. However, to discover the most picturesque bays, you have to broaden your horizons slightly and head to the outskirts of the resort, where you will be dazzled and delighted by what you find.
One of our absolute favourite beaches, with arguably the most tempting turquoise waters to be found anywhere on the island is Cala Bassa. This expanse of white sandy beach is quite simply heaven on earth. The shallow clear waters make it popular with families, and the elegant, luxurious Cala Bassa Beach Club (CBBC) attracts the A list crowd, who come to lounge on the sumptuous daybeds and enjoy the effusively attentive service of the CBBC Beach Boys who are on hand to serve your cocktails and anything else you desire from their extensive menus, direct to your sunlounger. All you need to do is sit back and enjoy the view…
For a more tranquil setting, we adore Cala Gracio and her sister cove, Cala Gracionetta, just a stone's throw from the main resort of San Antonio. But their peaceful settings will make you feel as if you are a world away. Another favourite sunset spot to add to the list, we love to end the day here with a sundowner at the chic and welcoming El Chiringuito beach bar and restaurant.
For a family-friendly and energetic vibe, head to the shores of Cala Tarida, a ten-minute drive from the main town, but well worth it for its long stretch of beautiful white sand, clear and shallow waters, plus an abundance of bars, restaurants and watersports outlets to suits all ages, tastes and budgets. Cala Tarida and nearby Cala Moli are home to some of our most sought after sea view villas in Ibiza due to the spectacular views available from this particular piece of coastline, and the tranquillity of the area combined with the close proximity to San Antonio itself.
Sunsets are a big deal in Ibiza, in fact, we would describe it as the greatest free show on Earth. No Ibizan sunset is ever the same, you could watch a thousand and still be dazzled by the sheer beauty, and San Antonio enjoys year-round views of this unforgettable spectacle. The magical experience of watching the sun making its final descent into the sea after another perfect Ibizan day is one that will stay with you forever. Read on for our Ibiza Summer Villas insider tips to the very best sunset spots close to San Antonio.
The bay of Calo des Moro in the heart of this bustling resort is far better known as the world-famous Sunset Strip. Here, an eclectic selection of bars and restaurants nestle together, all designed to offer the very best view of the Ibizan sunset. Home to the eternally popular Mambo's, Savannahs and Mint Lounge, however in our opinion, you cannot beat the original, and some would say the best location, the iconic Cafe del Mar.
Situated perfectly between the pretty coves of Cala Gracio and Punta Galera you will delight in the sheer beauty of the Hostal La Torre. This recently renovated boutique bar and restaurant offer an incredibly idyllic spot to enjoy the sunset spectacle. Take a seat on the alfresco terrace where attentive waiters will ensure your every need is met as you enjoy the breathtaking views over the waters. The cocktails here are already famous for being both inventive and delicious, and we can think of no better place to end another perfect day on the White Island.
Slightly further north, and a world away from the madding crowds of the Sunset Strip you can find the most peaceful viewing spot of all, Heaven’s Gate. This cliffside viewing point is just two miles away from the church in the sleepy town of Santa Agnes. To find this piece of paradise, simply turn left at local bar Can Cosmi and follow the path towards the coast, stop for a moment to take a breath once you reach edge, and watch the sun sink into the crystal clear waters. There are no fancy bars or restaurants here, this is a secluded and unspoilt natural beauty spot, but we love it even more for that very reason! It's also worth remembering, when choosing your perfect Ibiza holiday villa, that hiding behind the forest and fields of Santa Agnes are some of the most elegant and sought after villas on the island.
We simply couldn’t talk about sunsets in Ibiza without mentioning Cala Conte, and most specifically the much loved Sunset Ashram, a true Ibizan institution. The clue is in the name here, this heavenly spot is one of the island's most loved sunset destinations. Perched high on the cliff edge, overlooking the sparkling waters of the bay, Sunset Ashram is a legendary spot, and for very good reason. The circular open air terrace offers some of the most spectacular views you can imagine, and the azure waters are simply begging to be swum in. Just a ten minute drive from the main town, this is a real slice of Ibiza heaven, and some of our most popular villas for rent in San Antonio are chosen because they look out over this most magnificent bay.
So, wherever you choose, you are assured to be blown away by the myriad of colours which light up the sky each and every night, a mesmerising and unforgettable Ibiza sunset is simply magical every time, whether you choose to enjoy it from the privacy of your sunset villa, or at one of these idyllic locations.
Fine dining may not be the first thing that springs to mind when you think about San Antonio, however, you will be pleasantly surprised to discover a myriad of charming, elegant and eclectic restaurants in and around the main resort, offering a dining destination to suit all tastes and budgets. In the heart of town, and ideal for those watching their pennies, you will find David's, the much loved pizzeria which has been serving the residents and visitors of San Antonio with excellent quality, reasonably priced and decidedly delicious Italian cuisine for decades. You can always be assured of a warm welcome and a pleasant bill when you eat here!
If you desire a slightly more elegant location, then stroll down to the marina, where the magnificent Villa Mercedes sits proudly on the harbourside, its distinctive blue and white painted walls are instantly recognisable. Stylish and luxurious, its cuisine reflects the decor, sumptuous and sublime, and you can often enjoy live music from the legendary flamenco singer Paco Fernandez and his band, who make regular appearances within the exotic gardens.
If you decide to leave the comfort of your private villa and wish to enjoy a truly unique dining experience, and to really impress or delight a loved one, we recommend a visit to the converted church just outside of town, which is now home to one of the finest restaurants on the island, named Sa Capella. The artfully refurbished chapel makes a hopelessly romantic setting, and you can feast on their selection of the finest cuts of meat and freshly caught fish, whilst enjoying the inimitable ambience.
Of course, we cannot talk about San Antonio without mentioning the infamous and legendary nightlife scene, for which the resort is so well known. For years, the town has been the favourite choice in Ibiza for those who seek to spend their nights enjoying the decadent and hedonistic delights that Ibiza has to offer. One venue which has stood the test of time is Es Paradis, the iconic, beautiful nightclub which dominates the main promenade, with its Grecian design making you feel as if you have entered a palace rather than a nightclub when you step into its hallowed walls. Here the glamorous crowds gather each and every night in the summer to enjoy the sounds of world-famous DJs and the legendary water parties, which sees the dancefloor transformed into a huge swimming pool! Across the road, the superclub Eden hosts a more underground scene, with harder, more electronic beats and showcases some of the up and coming musical talent from Europe and around the world.
Should you prefer your music to be played live rather than through a DJ deck, then you are in the right place, as San Antonio is also home to the world-famous Ibiza Rocks hotel and bar. Here, throughout the summer you can enjoy live music from some of the biggest artists in the world. Previous acts who have graced the stage include The Kaiser Chiefs, Ed Sheeran, Faithless and Dizzee Rascal, to name but a few. With inexpensive entry and a fantastic atmosphere, these events are a sell-out week after week.
You may think so far that San Antonio is all about clubbing, sunbathing and relaxing? Think again, this town also plays host to many thrill-seekers, who want an extra piece of adventure to spice up their trip. With so many companies catering for adrenaline junkies, here is our selection of the best.
TakeOff Ibiza Ibiza caters for all sorts of action-packed adventures. Parasailing, speedboats, and water toys, including jet skis and seabobs are all on this company’s repertoire. Based in San Antonio harbour, just a few minutes’ walk from the famous Egg roundabout, the company pride itself on safety and expertise. Whether you choose to take an unforgettable flight on a parachute 400 meters above the sea, or whizz through the waters on a high-speed boat, you can rest assured that experienced instructors will be behind you every step of the way. AirZone Ibiza, Spain’s first dedicated inflatable orb park, is a purpose-built centre that offers hours of fun and thrills for all ages. Rolling down hills in giant inflatable spheres, racing your friends, or splashing them through water, laughter is guaranteed! The park is well supervised and organised, and is a great option for hen and stag parties.
Surf House Ibiza is situated in the bay of San Antonio, and this beach sports club offers a variety of activities including paddle surfing and volleyball. However, the main attraction for adrenalin junkies will be the Flowrider, an artificial wave machine that can accommodate up to 20 ‘surfers’ at any one time. Lessons are available for a reasonable 30€ per hour, including the hire of all the equipment. So embrace your inner Californian surf dude and make some waves! Perhaps our absolute favourite place for thrills and spills is Ocean Mania, a relatively new addition to the San Antonio landscape which is inspired by the popular TV show Total Wipeout. Situated in the S’Arenal bay, this floating inflatable obstacle course offers a world of fun for families and thrill-seekers. Manned by lifeguards and with lifejackets provided, the only thing you’ll need is a sense of adventure!
To summarise, San Antonio is a resort with something to offer everyone. We are confident that when your book your Ibiza villa in San Antonio, you will not only be delighted with all that the area has to offer, but that you will want to return time and time again to experience the magic once more. We look forward to welcoming you to your Ibiza Summer Villa in San Antonio!
