Each May, the cobbled streets beneath the ancient walls of Dalt Vila are transformed into a land from a time gone by. A huge celebration of all things medieval, the bustling heart of Ibiza´s capital becomes a melting pot of people, animals, food and drink, plus the chance to witness the types of crafts, entertainment and traditions of this time. Family friendly and a fantastic way to spend a day in Ibiza, this year the Medieval Festival will be bigger and better than ever before.

The schedule for this 2017’s festivities will commence on Thursday 11 May at 6pm in the Reina Sofia Park with a grand welcoming parade, followed by the Opening Performance & Medieval tournament at 9.30pm. The Medieval Market will be open on both Friday 12 May and Sunday 13 May from 10am until late inside the Dalt Vila.

Attracting over 100,000 visitors each year from all over the world, this is a big event in Ibiza´s cultural diary, and for many marks the beginning of yet another sublime summer season. The decoration and effort which goes into transforming the streets is truly impressive, with colourful flags, handpainted murals, bright and attractive fabrics banner and much more turning the streets into a riot of colour. With over 60 different stalls and vendors all dressed in full medieval outfits, you can indulge in some medieval retail therapy and snap up lots of goodies including traditional foods, spices, handcrafted jewellery, leather goods, fruits, wine and cheeses, to name but a few.

With over 80 performances each day, the town becomes one big open air theatre, with a exotic line up of showmanship to thrill and entertain visitors of all ages! From dancing minstrels to live art performances, chocolate makers, artisans, spice traders, and silversmiths, the streets are alive with the buzz of old age entertainment!

Children will delight in the acrobatic performances, and clowns, and you can also watch traditional parades, as well as puppeteers, princes and princesses, knights and wizards, a real magical mystery tour. Snake charmers, hawk trainers and ´real life ‘dragons will thrill and amuse the whole family, and you can even enjoy a ride on a camel or a donkey!

A truly memorable experience for the whole family the Medieval Fair is a true highlight of Ibiza´s summer season, and we can’t recommend it highly enough. Traffic is always busy on the days of the fair, so why not take a boat from Talamanca, Santa Eulalia or Es Cana and avoid the parking crowds. We also recommend arriving early, especially if travelling with children as the streets become extremely busy for this most spectacular event.
