As holidaymakers continue searching for ways to make their travel budget go further, many are looking beyond simply finding the cheapest flights. Instead, travellers are becoming increasingly focused on overall value, considering everything from accommodation and restaurants to attractions and transport when deciding where to go.
While flight prices often dominate the cost of planning a trip, they’re only one part of the overall holiday budget. Once travellers arrive, accommodation, dining, sightseeing and getting around can quickly add hundreds to the total cost of a getaway. Destinations that combine affordable travel costs with consistently highly rated experiences can therefore offer far better value than places with cheap flights alone.
To help travellers discover where they’ll get the most for their money this summer, Ibiza Summer Villas analysed popular holiday destinations around the world, comparing both the total cost of a trip and the quality of the visitor experience.
The study analysed:
- Average return flight prices, using an average of departures from both the UK and the US
- Average three-star hotel prices and ratings
- Average restaurant prices and ratings
- Average attraction prices and ratings
- Local one-way public transport costs
For each destination, an overall average cost and overall average visitor rating were calculated. The average rating was then divided by the total cost to produce a Value Score, highlighting the destinations that deliver the highest-quality holiday experience relative to what travellers can expect to spend.
The World’s Best-Value Holiday Destinations
Prague Is the World’s Best-Value Holiday Destination for Summer 2026
With its storybook skyline, winding cobbled streets and centuries of history around every corner, Prague has been crowned the world’s best-value holiday destination for summer 2026.
The Czech capital claimed the highest Value Score after striking the perfect balance between affordability and quality. Visitors can expect to spend an average of £107 per night on a three-star hotel, while a three-course meal for two costs just £48.95. Even getting around is budget-friendly, with local transport averaging £1.59 per journey, making it easy to explore every corner of the city without stretching your budget.
Whether you’re watching the sun rise over Charles Bridge, wandering through the colourful streets surrounding Old Town Square, or taking in panoramic views from Prague Castle, Prague delivers unforgettable experiences at almost every turn. Its restaurant scene is just as impressive, earning an average rating of 4.57 out of five, while its attractions average 4.32 stars, proving that travellers don’t have to compromise on quality to enjoy exceptional value.
The World’s Highest-Rated Holiday Destinations Revealed
While value for money is often a deciding factor when choosing where to travel, some destinations stand out simply because visitors leave having had an exceptional experience. When ranked purely on the average ratings of their hotels, restaurants and attractions, Kyoto, Ibiza and Naples emerged as the three highest-rated holiday destinations in the study.
Kyoto claimed the top spot with an outstanding average rating of 4.61 out of five, thanks to its blend of centuries-old temples, peaceful bamboo forests, traditional tea houses and beautifully preserved historic neighbourhoods. The city also recorded some of the highest-rated attractions in the study, averaging 4.82 stars, while its restaurants earned an impressive 4.75-star rating, reflecting Kyoto’s reputation as one of Japan’s culinary capitals.
Close behind was Ibiza, which secured second place with an overall rating of 4.59. While the island is famous for its nightlife, travellers consistently praised every aspect of the holiday experience. Ibiza recorded the highest-rated three-star hotels in the entire study, averaging 4.56 stars, alongside attractions scoring 4.73 and restaurants averaging 4.49 stars. Beyond its iconic beach clubs, visitors can explore the UNESCO-listed Dalt Vila, discover secluded coves, browse artisan markets and enjoy some of the Mediterranean’s most spectacular sunsets, helping the island earn some of the strongest reviews anywhere in the world.
Rounding out the top five were Naples, Mykonos and Hanoi. Naples achieved the highest restaurant rating in the entire study with an almost perfect 4.99 out of five, underlining its reputation as the birthplace of pizza and one of Europe’s great food cities. Mykonos impressed with attractions averaging 4.78 stars, combining whitewashed streets, luxury beach clubs and easy access to the nearby UNESCO-listed island of Delos, while Hanoi’s bustling Old Quarter, vibrant street food scene and rich history helped it secure an overall rating of 4.57.
