Rain may not be part of your plan when visiting Ibiza, and indeed, the island benefits from an average of 300 days of sunshine per year. However, if the clouds do gather whilst you are visiting, don’t worry; there are plenty of ways to occupy your time on the White Island when the heavens do open.
From the tree lined streets of Ibiza Town to the hippy markets in the North, Ibiza is a veritable shopper’s paradise. In the capital Ibiza, you will find literally hundreds of boutiques and stores selling everything from designer dresses to exquisite beachwear and jewellery. There are also a myriad of bars and restaurants in which to take a break from your retail therapy if you get exhausted! Or head up to the North and visit the famous Hippy markets. At Las Dalias every Saturday and Es Canar each Wednesday from May until October you will find dozens of stalls selling a brightly coloured selection of bohemian trinkets, clothing and household goods, and a perfect place to find gifts or souvenirs of your visit.
Why not make the most of the bad weather and treat yourself to a luxurious day of pampering and relaxation at one of the islands many spas. The Hacienda Na Xamena in San Miguel offers some fabulous treatments in a spectacular setting ? overlooking the cliffs and the beautiful bay of San Miguel. Or head to Atzaro where the zen like setting and beautifully landscaped gardens could not fail to transport you to an ambient state of mind.
There are many cinemas on the island, but perhaps the most beautiful is in Santa Eulalia. The Teatro Espana is a beautiful old theatre which has been carefully restored and renovated into a modern cinema. There is only one screen but a good variety of movies, and three times per week they show a film in its original language (usually English).? Check the local newspapers for listings.
The Bowling Vila Parc Center just on the outskirts of Ibiza Town is a great choice for a rainy afternoon. Perfect for families, or larger groups of friends, here you can indulge in some competitive ten pin bowling. The centre provides complimentarily bowling shoes, and there is a good bar and restaurant, serving pizzas, hotdogs and snacks. Teenagers will also delight in the amusement arcade which has pinball machines, simulated racing driving and air hockey machines to name but a few.
So if you have to pack away the sunscreen and the beach towels for a day, make the most of the time to explore some parts of Ibiza you may not have discovered when the sun is shining!
