The clear waters of Cala Bassa are truly breathtaking, reminiscent of a tropical Caribbean bay. Situated just fifteen minutes by car from busy San Antonio, it is also serviced by a regular ferry from the resort.
The beach is surrounded by a forest of junipers, pine trees and tamarind, making it sheltered from the coastal winds. The soft and golden sand stretches for 250m and is and has ample sunbeds for hire.
The recent renovation of the restaurant areas has made Cala Bassa a hot destination for foodies. The renamed Cala Bass Beach Club stretches along the shore and has three different areas catering for all tastes and budgets. Closest to the car park is the Cala Bassa Chiringo, whitewashed and luxurious with smart wooden sunloungers covered in elegant white cushions. The menu is refined and offers a good selection of fresh pasta, fish and meat dishes. Prices are around 30 euros for a main course, and 20 euros for a bottle of very palatable house wine.
The Cala Bassa Restaurante offers a more adventurous gastronomic fusion menu as well as high quality sushi. Further along the beach, the snack bar is ideal for those on a smaller budget, offering pizzas, sandwiches and burgers.
Customers of the Chiringo and Restaurant can also indulge in the Beach Boy service, where energetic and smartly dressed waiters will serve your food and drinks direct to your sunbed, leaving you free to relax and soak up the ambience.
Children will delight in the shallow clear waters, and there is a specially designated area for swimming making it safe from incoming boats. A banana boat is available for thrill seekers and jetskis, pedaloes and smaller boats are all available for hire.
Vendors walk up and down the beach selling fresh fruit, drinks and clothes in a friendly and not pushy way, adding to the fun and lively atmosphere. There a few boutiques offering more elegant clothing and jewellery for the more discerning shopper.
Parking is supervised and the fee of 5 euros comes with a ticket redeemable at any of the bars for a drink. The car park area is large and the security there means your belongings will be safe whilst you relax on the sand.
Overall, Cala Bassa offers something for all ages, tastes and budgets. The crystalline clear waters are an unforgettable sight and the beach is a “must visit” destination for any self respecting beach lover.
