Ibiza´s little sister, the small yet perfectly formed island of Formentera is fast becoming the place where people head to when they want to escape the crowds, shake off the post party blues and simply relax. This little slice of paradise boasts some of the most crystalline waters to be found anywhere in the world, and is also home to some of the most divine beach clubs you could possibly dream of. Here is our pick of the very best.
A favourite sunset spot, Chezz Gerdi is smooth and sophisticated, with its eclectic and colourful patterned day beds providing the perfect spot to soak up the Formentera vibe after another idyllic day. The in house DJ provides a chilled out soundtrack to your sundowner, and we can think of no better place to be.
The clue is in the name here as blue is the dominant colour of this eternally popular, affordable and friendly beach bar, where locals and holidaymakers alike gather to enjoy the ambience, excellent food and welcoming atmosphere. Since the 1960´s, Blue Bar has attracted a bohemian crowd and a loyal customer base, who return year after year to enjoy the spectacular sunset views.
Further along the shores of Platja Migjorn, the elite crowd head to Gecko Beach club, an upmarket, stylish and sophisticated spot where you can mingle with the Al listers who flock here each summer to enjoy its peaceful, luxurious amenities. Join in a yoga class, swim in their spacious pool, or simply enjoy lunch or dinner in the divine beachfront restaurant. Gecko has something for everyone.
´Tiburon´ is the Spanish word for shark, and this legendary beach front eatery is instantly recognisable as you arrive by boat due to the very large shark sculpture which dominates the entrance. One of our all time favourite places to eat and drink, you are assured of the warmest of welcomes by the effusively friendly staff who cater for your every whim whilst you feast on the very affordable menu in the boho yet chic surroundings. A sure fire winner every time.
Neighbouring Beso Beach is more of a new player on the Formentera scene, yet has enjoyed great success in recent years, with its elegant decor and excellent seafood menu, plus of course its prime location on this most popular of beaches. The decor has something of a Caribbean theme, and you feel as if you could indeed be in a little piece of paradise as you enter the sublimely welcoming surroundings.
Sushi addicts will be in heaven in this secluded yet super stylish spot, hidden away on the otherwise busy shore of Platja Migjorn, with its whitewashed decor and sunset roof terrace, it’s an idyllic spot, where you can simply forget all your cares and troubles and while away hours sampling the divine cocktails, sumptuous sushi and unforgettable views. Highly recommended.
So, whatever you culinary desires, budget or style, you will be sure to find your own very favourite Formentera gem, and we assure you, once you’ve been, you will wish to return again and again..
