San Antonio in January

San Antonio in January

Posted on May 19, 2022 in Winter in Ibiza

January is always a month of two halves; you either love the New Year, resolutions and all or you prefer to start the year quietly and in an unassuming way.

Living in Ibiza, particularly San Antonio: the town likes to welcome the month of January with open arms.

Twelfth night (the night of 5 January) sees the arrival of the Kings and the parades along the streets where the Kings throw sweets out to all the crowds. Children flock to the floor to see who can bag the biggest haul.

What a great way to round off the holiday season!

During the week leading up to the evening of Saturday 12January, the prep begins and gets under way; the Christmas tree by the fountains is taken down and replaced with a multitude of ‘Peace Out’ signs and hanging flowers.

A children’s flower power event takes place from 18.00 in the marquee tent and from 22.00 it’s the adult’s turn to let their hair down, sing and dance! Tables are set up outside the bars surrounding the marquee tent and with the music playing, the party atmosphere really takes off.

Throughout the month of January there are many events taking place in San Antonio for all ages. Whether you fancy watching some dog agility on the beach, making your own kite to fly by Mambo or getting down with it a la80’s style at La Movida there is something for everyone at any hour during the weekend.

San Antonio may receive some negative press in the summer…however in the winter it is without question the islands secret which us locals are not willing to share with the tourists just yet!
