San Antonio
San Antonio has pushed the boat out this year much to the delight of the locals and expats. Complete with larger than life sized light installations around the town, the children are able to scamp through some of these installations thus making the perfect holiday picture. Along with the reflection pool, the super sized Christmas tree, the arrival of Papa Noel’s workshop and Christmas market – they surely can only top this with a sprinkling of snow – Christmas 2020 take note! The market stalls are a great place to mingle with seasonal music being played through loud speakers. There are specific times when they stalls are opened so please do check before heading down to avoid any disappointment.
Ibiza Town
The Christmas market is open daily until the beginning of January and just like last year they too also have Papa Noel. With Papa Noel being so busy, the visits to meet him are scheduled between the 14th – 23 December. There are shows being performed by local theatre groups in the lead up to the big day and from the 20th there are chocolate and cookie workshops, balloon workshops with Cachirulo and also Christmas craft workshops for all the children. Last year all the the holiday action took place in the Plaça de Parque however this year they have chosen to move it to the Vara del Rey.
There is also a Christmas Funfair with activities and attractions for children, as well as stalls with food and drink which is open every evening in December and into January. Located in the outskirts of Ibiza Town, in Can Misses, behind the Policia Nacional & Diario de Ibiza buildings. Head there on a Wednesday for slightly cheaper fares!
Diverespai will be returning again for it’s 22nd year which is a Christmas event organised by the Consell of Ibiza and held between the 26 December and 3 January at the Recinto Ferial. In addition to all the other attractions going on including inflatables, art workshops, sport and play areas there will be an ice rink. Cost of entrance to the Diverespai costs 2E and the ice rink costs a further 2E for 20 minutes of skating.
Santa Eulalia
The Plaza de España in Santa Eulària des Riu began the lighting of the Christmas tree last week with carol singers and the school bands. The atmosphere in the street was electric and the town certainly stood out with more than 60 areas with decoration and festive lighting. The council have ensured that the children are not forgotten in this festive period and between 6 December – 22 December there are storytelling events, children’s theatre and cinema sessions of Festicontes, Festiteatre and Festicinema that will take place at the Teatro España and other municipal spaces. In total, 23 sessions where there will be from stories for babies to sessions for adults. Likewise, there will be space both for the visit of Papa Noel to the different parishes and for those who are faithful to the tradition of the Kings. This year, in addition, in Sant Carles there will be, from January 4 to 6, a Kings Market with popular crafts, children’s activities and others in the area.
Finally, the Great New Year’s Eve Party that is usually held in the Punt Jove of Santa Eulària will become a themed party this year adapting the ‘Back to the 80’ s party with DJ Vázquez (from La Movida). It seems that Santa Eulalia have ensured this holiday season is one to remember!
Across the three main towns in Ibiza, there is something for everyone for this Christmas season. The magic of this holiday season is captivating especially for the children.
