The word ‘Chiringuito‘ is literally taken to mean a small bar or kiosk on the beach selling drinks and tapas.

However in recent years, the number of chiringuitos on Ibiza has blossomed, with the small, traditional shacks of yesteryear becoming outnumbered by larger, more luxurious venues, which are very different from the rustic shacks of old. However, there are still a few more traditional chiringuitos remaining. Follow our guide to the very best of the new and old style beach restaurants on the island.

Aguas Blancas

The simple but eternally popular chiringuito at Aguas Blancas really does epitomise the original meaning of the word. Rustic, simple and charming, it is famed for its excellent bocadilloes, freshly made sandwiches with a wide variety of fillings which are so good that people return to taste them time after time. Find it at the bottom of the steep path which leads down to the beach.

El Chiringuito

Over in Es Cavallet, El Chiringuito (pictured above) has taken the meaning to another level. Luxurious, whitewashed decor and a Michelin starred chef means that this is the ultimate destination for those seeking a little more glamour. Excellent food and cocktails are a consistent feature here.

Babylon Beach

On the cliffs overlooking the bay of Sa Caleta sits Babylon Beach. Elegantly designed with a simple but tantalising menu, it is an oasis of calm and tranquillity to be found just outside of Santa Eulalia.

Can Colomaret

This tiny shack on Cala Nova has been serving the local community with freshly caught fish for over 20 years. The family run business is most certainly no frills, but is consistently busy and for good reason, the seafood is some of the best on the island.

Atzaro Beach

At the other end of Cala Nova sits the more refined chiringuito of Atzaro Beach. Here the pretty decor and more extensive menu offer a more discerning beachgoer a great range of meat, pasta and fish dishes.

Bar Toni

Since 1989 Bar Toni has been a popular spot for visitors to Cala Pada beach. With a simple but delicious menu including pizzas, an excellent lasagne, and fresh seafood, and the friendly staff ensures it is constantly busy during the summer months.

Sunset Ashram

Undoubtedly one of the most idyllic spots on the island to watch the sunset, this aptly named beach bar is eternally popular due to its magnificent views across the bay of Cala Conte.

Sa Trinxa

An Ibiza institution for many years, a bohemian crowd gathers at Sa Trinxa each and every day to enjoy its unique blend of music, food and of course the beautiful waters of Salinas beach.

Playa Cala Carbo

Just outside of San Jose, this traditional Ibicenco restaurant offers specialities including rock lobster stew, oven baked fish encrusted with salt and their famous paellas.

Las Dalias Chiringuito

The owners of the world famous hippy market opened their eponymous beach restaurant in Es Figueral at the beginning of 2014 and it has fast become a firm favourite amongst locals and holidaymakers alike. ?Elegant decor, an extensive menu and a friendly vibe all add to its popularity.
