San Antonio’s West End

The West End has many bars, clubs and eateries, catering for all tastes. As you stroll (or stumble) through the streets, you will no doubt be accosted by PRs offering you deals on drinks to entice you into their establishment. Below, we have listed a few of the more popular places so you can at least have a bit of direction and purpose rather than being pulled from pillar to post!

Where to eat?

There are plenty of fast food places up and down the west end streets, but there are a few hidden gems offering excellent food and service at good prices.

Entice

Winner of the Plantxa San Antonio competition (a tapas contest set over 6 weeks in the winter, with Spanish and British bars and restaurants competing against each other) for the past two years. Enjoy excellent food and watch the revellers go by before you join them.

The Ship Inn

Famously known as the workers pub at the top of the West End. Friendly staff serve cheap drinks and great food around the clock. The Sunday roast dinner is the best in town and you can eat in the pleasant surroundings of the main square.

Ravin’ Ruby

Excellent Indian food served in a fabulously decorated small restaurant. Try the succulent chicken pakora as part of an affordable three course menu.

Where to go next?

So, you’ve eaten and now down to business! The choice of bars is endless; even the most dedicated bar crawler couldn’t get around all of them, so here are a few to consider:

The Highlander

A West End institution, The Highlander is packed every night with friendly, lively staff and a great atmosphere.

Viva

Relatively new by West End standards, but very cheap drinks and loud, current music make it a favourite with workers and tourists alike.

Tamesis

Originally a Spanish bar, a recent refurbishment has seen it reopen its doors with an Irish theme. Cheap drinks and a warm atmosphere with plenty of TV screens make this an ideal place to watch sports.

Hush

Now perhaps the most popular bar/club on the West End. DJs play the sounds of the summer to a young crowd enjoying reasonable priced drinks in a true party atmosphere.

Other popular bars and clubs include Play2, Soul City, Topicana, Revolutions, and many many more. There are also a few strip clubs, catering mainly for stag parties.

Wherever you go, one thing is for sure: you will have a fantastic experience and will certainly revisit!
