Info Ibiza: San Juan

San Juan

Holidays in San Juan can be spent marvelling at the beauty of nature all around.

Its unique atmosphere makes holiday villas and accommodation located here different to anywhere else on the island.

Situated in the north west, San Juan is the biggest region in Ibiza, but the least populated, so a lot of the area remains rural and its original splendour.

The charm of the town itself, is its quaintness, just a few shops, bars, cafes and a majestic church dating back to the 18th century; all fit together perfectly in the original architecture of the place.

The geology of the area consists of several hills leading into valleys and the northern coastline is mostly cliff edges - apart from the occasional beautiful bay. Ibiza Villas in the area profit from this fantastic geology, each one having a wonderfully long view out into the valley or onto the Mediterranean and located in peaceful, private settings.

Included in the San Juan region are:

Portinatx

A group of 3 beaches all with crystal clear waters and beautiful views. The biggest beach is 'S'Arenal Gros' a large sandy beach located in the centre of the Portinatx; a short walk takes you to 'S'Arenal petit' a smaller, private and picturesque beach with restaurants cut into the rocks to the sides; the third is 'Playa Porto beach' a tiny cove surrounded by pine trees.

Portinatx is a self-sufficient town that is popular with English holiday makers. All the beaches are safe with shallow waters and the resort offers children's entertainment, a games centre with Bowling and Pool tables, Live music bars, pubs, good quality restaurants, supermarkets and gift shops. We also recommend cliff walks around Portinatx for some great holiday photos.

Ibiza-Summer currently have some cheap Ibiza villas in the Portinatx area on our portfolio.

Cala Xarraca

Beautiful cove with amazingly clear waters perfect for snorkelling - you can see the sea bottom no matter how far you swim out. Located close to Portinatx, Cala Xarraca is one of Ibiza's most spectacular beaches, attracting photographers, sightseers and sun worshippers alike, with its interesting rocks in the water and to the edges of the bay. There is a natural mud bath to the left of Cala Xarraca that has healing properties and will help rejuvenate the skin.

The sea views and unblemished surrounding areas make Villas in Cala Xarraca a perfect choice for your holiday.

San Miguel

A small town close to the northern coastline. San Miguel has succeeded in creating a number of thriving and famous businesses without losing any of its class; such as a boutique shop which is often featured in Vogue magazine, and one of the best Italian restaurants in Ibiza. A large, important church tops the town, and the roads wind down offering cafes, bars, shops and restaurants.

Following the road down for about 5minutes takes you to the 'Puerto de San Miguel' a big sandy beach perfect for families and tourists who want a peaceful holiday. The beach is safe and offers activities like water sports and diving, there is also a famous fish restaurant located here, as well as a number of shops, cafes and bar/restaurants. Also take a day to explore the San Miguel Cave just north of the bay.

Holiday apartments and hotels are the main accommodation option around the Puerto of San Miguel although the occasional beautiful villa (finca style) can be found in the area.

Benirass

image

A large sandy beach located to the west of the island, popular with hippies and island musicians who often play chilled out music while the sun is setting - a true Ibiza moment to be experienced.

The beach has a few restaurants, bars and a beach shop selling gifts and clothes. Surrounded by long cliff edges with sea shanty style boathouses set into them, you can take a walk along the rocks to find a private place to watch the magical sunset. If you rent an Ibiza Villa in Benirass your holiday accommodation can be truly magical, especially if it comes teamed with a view of the sunset.

San Lorenzo

Located in the centre of Ibiza half way between Santa Eulalia and Santa Gertrudis this village was originally an ancient Moorish settlement. A large imposing church, surrounded by watchtowers makes up the centre of the village.

When it comes to restaurants San Lorenzo is a popular spot, with a number of famous eateries; including an outside barbecue restaurant serving only meat - the biggest and best steaks on the island, an inexpensive but delicious Italian restaurant, a popular and stylish English bar/restaurant which is a excellent alternative to the bars in Ibiza Town and a picnic and barbecue area funded by the local government where you bring your own food and drink and everything else is provided i.e. the barbecues, wood and sheltered tables and chairs.

Ibiza Summer has some charming holiday villas in the San Juan area on the website at the moment.
